Now that it is getting warmer it is even more important to stay hydrated. Most of our water intake comes from drinking water; however, about 20% comes from the foods we eat. If you aren’t able to grab a glass of water here are a few foods that will help you stay hydrated:

  • Watermelons are 92% water and they contain magnesium, calcium, and potassium.
  • Cucumbers are 97% water and are rich in Vitamin C.
  • Spinach is 92% water and it contains high levels of calcium, fiber, folate, and vitamins A, C, and K.
  • Berries (Raspberries, Blueberries, Blackberries, and Cranberries) contain more than 85% water. They are also full of essential vitamins and antioxidants.
  • Peppers (Red, Green, Yellow, and Orange) have high water content. Green peppers pack the most water content at 94%.
  • Grapefruit is 90% water. It also helps stabilize sugar and lipid profiles and is shown to lower LDL cholesterol levels as well.
  • Cantaloupes are 92% water and are an excellent source of potassium.

Even though these foods help keep you hydrated you still need to drink plenty of water. The amount of water you drink should be half your body weight in ounces. If you exercise or live in a warmer climate you will need more water. You can find many water calculators online to help you figure out how much water you should drink a day.
