Thanksgiving is a time to bring the whole family together. The last thing anyone wants is to get food poisoning. Here are some helpful tips to ensure a Happy Thanksgiving:

 - Don’t rinse your poultry. Rinsing your poultry will cause contaminated water to splash onto your kitchen surfaces.

 - Make sure to wash all vegetables and fruit.

 - Use a digital instant read thermometer to find out if the turkey is completely cooked. The temperature needs to reach 180 degrees Fahrenheit when inserted into the thickest part of the thigh.

 - Food shouldn’t sit out for more than 2 hours. Serve smaller bowls and rotate them from the refrigerator to keep the food free of harmful bacteria.

 - Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly before touching food, after touching food and before eating.

 - Use separate cutting boards. Use one for meat and anther for cooked foods, fruits, and vegetables. Make sure to sanitize all cooking utensils and surfaces to reduce the risk of food poisoning.

 - When thawing a turkey allow one day in the refrigerator for every 5 pounds. If thawing in cold water allow 30 minutes for each pound and replace the water every 30 minutes.

 - Refrigerate a thawed turkey no longer than two days before cooking.

 - Only put stuffing in the turkey right before you cook it.

 - Leftovers should be frozen right away or eaten within three or four days.
